Gus Van Sants Milk

"My name is Harvey Milk and I'm here to recruit you" Is what he was known to say in the beginning of his speeches. The awards that were given to the film MILK were very much well deserved, 2 Oscars for Best Actor (Sean Penn) and Best Screen Writer (Dustin Lance Black) along with 29 other wins from different Film Academy's. It's disgusting how closed minded people think and act on their emotions towards gay people and there fight for gay rights. I have always grown up with gay males and females and was once called a FAG HAG but I say that with pride. I truly believe my sense of humor comes from my close gay friends from over the years and has made me who I am today. I truly recommend this wonderful film to watch and do admire Gus Van Sant. I am sure if Harvey Milk were alive now he would be so proud of how far gay rights has come.Above is a picture of a Mural by John Baden of Harvey Milk at 575 Castro Street, the former site of Milk's store, Castro Camera. Emerging from the gun at left is a quote from Milk: "If a bullet should enter my brain, let the bullet destroy every closet door."

This film was very very well cast as with every Gus Van Sant film is. If you have never seen a Gus Van Sant film then I highly recommend Elephent(2003) It is set on the day of a massive school shooting. Gus has you follow several charactors of the film hours before the shooting occurs. The 3 Gus Van Sant films that I have loved at a very very ealy age(13) and own has to be My Own Private Idaho, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues and To Die For. I have been one whos taste in film has always been questioned and that can be due to the oddness or lack of real taste but that's what I grew up watching(weird,Artsy) and still to this day enjoy. If you ejoy Gus Van Sant films then I also recommend Gregg Araki who directed The Doom Generation, Mysterious Skin, Nowhere and many others that I enjoyed.

The Watchmen

First off for some reason I was in a panic to make sure I was going to get my ticket and have a good seat since I knew it would be a packed house at 11:15am. It actually wasn't so I rushed myself driving down to the theater, eating an early lunch and also I was getting paid for all of this..In a nutshell I support developmentally disable people and support them in work and in the community. Anyhow we got to the theater and some idiot thought it would be great to bring there newborn to the theater which seriously WHY WHY WHY??? would you ruin the film for everyone else, can't find a babysitter? then stay home!! and to make it even worse some old man was snoring soo loud and one of my clients couldn't stop laughing...

How was the movie you say? Well it started of fairly well with a great fight scene with the Comedian character played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan who resembles alot like Javier Bardem. There were some scenes I felt that didn't fit the film such as the sex scenes and um Dr. M's penis showing on and off throughout the film..I was a bit uncomfortable because I was with my clients and one of them had to just look away. From my understand these scenes were true to the comic book but it was a first for me to see scenes like these placed in a comic flick. I do admit I have never read the Watchem but am having second thoughts about reading the comic book.
Also the music for the film didn't do it justice. Since the film was based more in the 80's area there were some chart topping tunes placed in almost every scene that didn't fit certain scenes. One more dislike, the special f/x makeup done for Nixon's character was overly done and when I say overly done I'm talking about his nose being too big for his face. It just didn't work.

What I did like about the film was the plot, cinematography and death scenes which is what made the movie for me. I was in awww of how great each fight scene and death scene was. I highly recomend this film but not for the kiddies. There's a reason for it being rated R.

P.S I FUCKING LOVE HOW THE SMASHING PUMPKINS MUSIC IS IN THE TRAILER WHICH IS TITTLED THE BEGINNING IS THE END

I am without a doubt excited to see the new Wolverien X-man Origins and also StarTrek. I'm not so thrilled about Aquaman and could not believe that anyone was really ever interest in doing a movie about him. His powers don't seem exciting enough do to film based on the comic hero so I guess that's why the film seems very low budget and not well done or cast. Better luck next time.
Also here is a horror film that I was truly intregued by just the trailer alone, Haunting in Connecticut After viewing this film the 2 films that popped in my mind were The Entity and the Haunted which was a made for telivsion movie in "91" which really scared the crap outta me. So enjoy these clips and give me some feed back on what you think.

P.s Tomorrow is Watchman day! I will give details on the fick and I promise, NO SPOILERS!
